Pauly's Cage Press Releases

Indoor batting cage a homerun for year-round batting practice

Warren, RI – 426 Fitness’ recently opened “Pauly’s Cage” offers area baseball, softball and slow pitch enthusiasts an indoor venue for year-round batting practice.

Located at “Parker Field”, within 426 Fitness’ facility at the historic Parker Mill on Metacom Ave., the batting cage boasts an automated pitching machine, warm up bats, helmets, reaction balls, an adjustable hitting tee and a canvas catcher.

Ideal for helping to keep batters in shape over the winter months, the cage is also useful for spring and summer days when practices would normally be rained out.

“It gives batters an intensive workout because they are repetitively striking balls,” says 426 Fitness Personal Trainer Paul Sousa. “And by offering live pitch as an option, the pitcher also gets a chance to hone in on the strike zone.”

Since opening the cage in early December 2010, area teams such as Bristol Men’s Softball have been thrilled to use the cage, which can be used for batting practice – either using the automated pitching machine or live pitch, or used for just pitching practice – the canvas catcher stands in as an artificial catcher for the strike zone.

Parker Field’s automated pitching machine holds 9 – 10 softballs at a time, or about 14 baseballs.

“It really is a great way to work on fine-tuning your batting swing,” says Sousa. “And stay warm and dry at the same time.”

Pauly’s Cage is available to non-members on an hourly rental or package basis. The $25 an hour drop in rate is for the cage, which can be shared by several people in a group at no additional fee. A five-hour rental includes a month’s gym pass and is $99. Personal instruction is available in various packages starting from $45 for a single hour to $400 for 10 hours. Offered on a sign-up basis, the cage is available for bookings anytime during normal gym hours.
